The MAT in Chemistry 7-12 at Southern Connecticut State University is designed for aspiring educators who hold a bachelor's degree in chemistry or a closely related field. This program equips future teachers with the theoretical and practical foundation needed to engage students in scientific discovery and problem-solving.  With science teachers in high demand, particularly in STEM fields, this program offers embedded clinical experiences in middle and high school classrooms, ensuring graduates are prepared for real-world teaching challenges. Upon completion of the 45.5-credit program, qualified candidates receive a master's degree and are recommended for initial Chemistry 4-12 certification in Connecticut.

Chemistry educators at the postsecondary level earn a median annual wage of $94,060, with top earners making up to $157,670.  For high school chemistry teachers, salaries vary by location and experience, but the median annual wage for secondary school teachers is $61,820, with opportunities for advancement and specialization.
