    Honors College Application Essay:

Applicants to the Honors College must write an essay on the following topic:

In your own words, explain how you understand the concepts of “community” and “leadership”. Please use personal examples from your own life. What is the connection between community and leadership, and what roles have these two important concepts played within your life? Would you consider yourself a leader? Are you part of a community? How so?

Your essay should be approximately 500 words (+/- 50). Your response will be evaluated on content (the significance of your answer and evidence of original or creative thinking) form (clarity, organization, coherence, structure), writing skills (mechanics, spelling and grammar), and your writer’s voice (writing that portrays your unique and authentic voice). Remember to cite any sources (webpages, articles, books, songs, movies, etc.) that you reference in your essay. You may use any citation format, as long as you document your sources.  While you may use a variety of sources to gather information, to avoid plagiarizing, be sure that the writing and opinions are your own.
